A 3-Hour Training with Bob Jope, LMHC

This training is funded by the New England ATTC and a BDAS grant

Presentation: This three-hour experience will familiarize participants with the role of relational clinical skills in enhancing successful outcomes in cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT). Attention will be given to each of the eight skills enumerated in the book Effective Psychotherapists by William Miller and Theresa Moyers, as well as to the phenomenon of client experiencing (EXP) and its connection to outcomes.

As a result of this training, participants will be able to:

  1. List the eight clinical relational skills associated with improved client outcomes;
  2. Contrast examples of CBT interactions that include the clinical relational skills with examples that do not; and
  3. Describe the phenomenon of client experiencing.

Bob Jope

Bob Jope, LMHC is a Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers (MINT) Certified Trainer, and has been a member of MINT since 2010. He teaches Motivational Interviewing (MI) at Salve Regina University and the University of Massachusetts; he is also a consultant with the Addiction Technology Transfer Center at UMass Chan School of Public Health. Bob is the lead trainer for Jope Consulting Services, has taught MI at agencies all over New England, and consults internationally on teaching and coding MI. He currently serves as Vice President of the board of directors of Motivational Interviewing in Leadership and Organizations (MILO). Bob has been trained and certified as an MI coder by Terri Moyers and Denise Ernst, co-authors of the Motivational Interviewing Treatment Integrity Code. Bob has also developed and taught program-specific MI training applications, and has trained thousands of people in various levels of Motivational Interviewing.

Holding a master’s degree in clinical psychology, Bob has worked in the mental health, child welfare, and substance abuse fields for the past thirty years. He has a passion for learning about and promulgating evidence-based, compassionate practices in the helping professions.
