Presentation: This 5-day intensive training is to provide Certified Recovery Support Workers (CRSWs) who are providing supervision to other CRSWs with a comprehensive training in effective supervision practices. A CRSW supervisor provides oversight, mentorship, and support to recovery support workers while also working collaboratively with other recovery professionals. The supervisor’s role is multifaceted, which requires extensive training in areas such as guiding professional development, utilizing effective communication skills, ensuring adherence to ethical standards, offering emotional support, managing performance, and fostering a positive, collaborative work environment. Following the completion of this training, participants will have the opportunity to join in ongoing peer mentorship sessions to continue supporting one another in their growth as CRSW supervisors.

As a result of this training, participants will be able to:

  1. Establish clear boundaries in supervisory relationships;
  2. Describe and apply ethical principles in recovery support services and supervision;
  3. Recognize crisis situations in recovery support;
  4. Identify performance challenges and obstacles in recovery support roles; and
  5. Develop strategies for ongoing professional development.

Eligibility:

  • Current approved CRSW supervisor
  • Actively supervising other CRSWs and/or candidates for initial certification
  • Preference of at least 2 years of supervisory experience
  • Program completion requires attendance to all 5 days
    • Day 1 & 2 In-Person in Concord (10/20 & 10/21) 
    • Day 3 & 4 Virtual via Zoom (10/27 & 11/03)
    • Day 5 In-Person in Concord (11/10)

NH Alcohol & Drug Abuse Counselors Association has been approved by NBCC as an Approved Continuing Education Provider. ACEP No 6754. Programs that do not qualify for NBCC credit are clearly identified. NHADACA is solely responsible for all aspects of the program.

Credentialing Support Partnership - Clinical Supervisor

Heather Smith, LCMHC, MLADC, R-DMT is a dedicated professional with over 14 years of experience in the field of clinical mental health counseling with specialty in treating substance use and co-occurring disorders. She has worked in various levels of care and settings, including home-based to inpatient and has served as clinical supervisor for drug courts within NH. Heather's expertise lies in helping individuals aged 12 and above whose substance misuse and/or mental health challenges have become unmanageable.

In her individual therapy sessions, Heather employs a diverse range of approaches. She incorporates expressive arts, body/mind exercises, dialectical behavioral therapy, skill-building techniques, person-centered therapy, and reality therapy to best address her clients' needs.

Over the past 7 years, Heather has taken on a supervisory role, providing holistic guidance to candidates pursuing their LCMHC, M/LADC, and CRSW credentials. She is also an approved impaired driving service provider. In 2022, after becoming a mother, she expanded her expertise to include perinatal support for both birthing parents and caregivers.

In 2020, Heather established her private practice, True Colors Counseling, PLLC. When it comes to self-care, she finds joy in spending time with her family, fishing, hiking, enjoying the outdoors, attending live music events, and exploring her creative side through painting, crafting, and dance/movement, whether teaching or participating.

Nick Pfeifer

Clinical Supervisor

Nick Pfeifer, LICSW, MLADC, provides clinical supervision, coaching and mentoring of new clinicians seeking LADC and MLADC licensure through the Credentialing Support Partnership at the NH Alcohol & Drug Abuse Counselors Association. Over the past 30 years, Nick Pfeifer has worked across the substance use continuum of care in both clinical and administrative roles. Most recently Nick led Counseling and Psychological Services at Better Life Partners where he oversaw clinical operations throughout New England. Previously, when managed care was newly available for substance use disorders, Nick aided the transition for many clinicians while working at Beacon Health Options/Well Sense Health Plan. He has been involved in the advancement of integrated care through the Integrated Delivery Networks, an adjunct graduate professor at New England College, and a prior member on the NH Board of Licensing for Alcohol and Other Drug Use Professionals. Additionally, Nick is the founder/consultant of Cairn Consulting, in Loudon, NH.
