Presentation: The substance use landscape is constantly shifting. Understanding what’s changing— and why— is crucial for behavioral and physical health care providers seeking to effectively serve their clients and communities. This all-day training will explore the latest emerging drug trends facing New Hampshire, examining state, regional, and national data. The training will cover novel synthetic opioids (fentanyl analogs, nitazenes, and orphines), methamphetamine and cocaine, xylazine and medetomidine, kratom and 7-OH, tianeptine and fly agaric, and synthetic benzodiazepines and hallucinogens, among others. The training will review each substance and its history, why it is emerging or at-risk of emerging in New Hampshire, the known or potential consequences of use, and opportunities for addressing use. It will also discuss strategies for identifying and addressing current and future trends, including data collection strategies for emerging trends.
As a result of this training, participants will be able to:
- Explain the scope and impact of emerging drug trends facing New Hampshire;
- Describe novel substances emerging in New England and across the United States;
- Recognize risk and protective factors influencing the emergence of new trends; and
- Identify opportunities and strategies to address emerging drug trends.
