Identifying Common Co-Occurring DSM-5 Diagnoses in Individuals with Substance Use Disorders - August 6, 2025
- Registration Closed
A 4-Hour Training with Danielle Moreggi, PhD
8:30am-12:45pm
130 Pembroke Road, Suite 150, Concord, NH 03301
Presentation: The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) and Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) report that 50% or more of individuals with a substance use disorder also have a co-occurring mental health condition. This significant overlap underscores the importance of addressing both issues simultaneously for effective treatment recommendations and outcomes. This training will highlight the most common co-occurring mental health disorders as defined by the DSM-5 criteria. Participants will gain valuable insights into the similarities between addictive disorders and various mental health symptoms such as mood swings, anxiety, and trauma-related challenges. Recovery support workers and early career clinicians will develop their evaluation and support skills to accurately identify these conditions and make informed treatment referrals and recommendations.
As a result of this training, participants will be able to:
- Identify and describe the most common DSM-5 mental health diagnoses that co-occur with SUDs;
- Describe the prevalence and patterns of co-occurring disorders in treatment populations; and
- Differentiate between primary mental health disorders and substance-induced conditions.
