A 6-Hour Training with Danielle Moreggi, PhD

8:30am-4:00pm

130 Pembroke Road, Suite 150, Concord, NH 03301

Presentation: This interactive training delves into the clinical overlap and distinctions between Mood Disorders and Attention-Related Disorders, two categories of DSM-5 diagnoses that often present with similar symptoms but necessitate vastly different treatment approaches. Mental health professionals frequently face diagnostic challenges when clients exhibit symptoms of impulsivity, mood swings, distractibility, and procrastination. By gaining a comprehensive understanding of the differences and similarities in how these symptoms manifest in mood disorders versus attention-related disorders, providers become more effective in their client interactions. Consequently, clients are more likely to engage in treatment, as they recognize the potential for positive change. The training will examine how trauma, gender, substance use and developmental history may impact diagnosis and treatment. It will also explore treatment planning strategies for individuals with both diagnostic categories. This training is ideal for clinicians and other mental health professionals seeking more confidence in clarifying DSM-5 diagnosis and gaining more insight into effective treatment planning when treating this complex patient population.

As a result of this training, participants will be able to:

  1. Differentiate core symptoms of Bipolar I, Bipolar II, Cyclothymia, and ADHD across developmental stages;
  2. Recognize at least 1 pattern of mood and behavior that indicate comorbidity; and
  3. Identify at least 2 clinical interviewing techniques to improve diagnostic assessment and treatment planning.
