LGBTQ+ Youth Suicide Prevention - August 13, 2026

A 2-Hour training with Jessica Goff, MSW and Sarah Gould

Presentation: This training, a collaboration between Connor’s Climb Foundation and New Hampshire Outright, addresses risk factors, warning signs, and protective factors as they relate specifically to LGBTQ+ youth. Participants will come away from this training with practical strategies to support LGBTQ+ youth and increase protective factors against suicidal behavior.

As a result of this training, participants will be able to:

  1. Create shared language around general terms and concepts relevant to the LGBTQ+ community;
  2. Explain the linkage between pervasive discrimination and LGBTQ+ youth being at an elevated risk of suicide, alongside other negative mental health outcomes;
  3. Identify risk factors, warning signs, and proactive factors of youth suicidal behavior, and how identity may play a role; and
  4. Apply strategies for mitigating the risk of suicide for LGBTQ+ youth, including practices in one’s work, and beyond.

NH Alcohol & Drug Abuse Counselors Association has been approved by NBCC as an Approved Continuing Education Provider. ACEP No 6754. Programs that do not qualify for NBCC credit are clearly identified. NHADACA is solely responsible for all aspects of the program.

This course has been approved by New Hampshire Alcohol & Drug Abuse Counselors Association (NHADACA), as a NAADAC Approved Education Provider, for educational credits. NAADAC Provider #23792, NHADACA is responsible for all aspects of the programming.

Jessica “Jess” Goff (she/her/hers) is the Deputy Director at New Hampshire Outright, a nonprofit organization that serves, supports, and advocates for LGBTQ+ youth and families across the Granite State. As part of this role, she coordinates educational opportunities that aim to increase the visibility of LGBTQ+ youth and foster the implementation of supportive practices. Jessica holds her Master’s Degree in Social Work from the University of New Hampshire. She has worked within the nonprofit sector for the past decade, with a focus on supporting youth, unhoused folks, individuals with Developmental Disabilities, and the LGBTQ+ community.

Connor's Climb Foundation

Sarah Gould (she/her) is the Director of Suicide Prevention Programs at Connor’s Climb Foundation, a nonprofit organization that provides suicide prevention agency to New Hampshire schools and communities. She has over 15 years of experience working with and on behalf of children and families. Prior to joining Connor’s Climb Foundation, Sarah worked in both nonprofit and public schools, spending ten years as a school counselor. She is a certified Youth Mental Health First Aid, A.I.D, and QPR instructor. She has facilitated training on a variety of topics, including family engagement, self care, and all aspects of youth mental health. She has also been at the forefront of creating and revising suicide prevention policies for districts she has worked in. In her current role, she offers technical assistance to schools looking to develop, review, or modify their suicide prevention policies. She finds all aspects of suicide prevention rewarding, but facilitating training is her passion. She loves the “aha” moments when participants make connections through the information. She also enjoys making her own connections with participants and hearing their stories.
