The NH Alcohol & Drug Abuse Counselors Association will meet for our annual membership and business meeting. All members and interested individuals are invited to attend. Association business will include updates and exciting changes at NHADACA, professional recognition awards, and Board of Directors election results. A keynote with CEH(s) will follow the meeting.

1:00PM-3:00PM Keynote: “Level Up on Problem Gambling in New Hampshire” with Lori Manson
Presentation: The word “gambling” used to evoke images of traditional forms of gambling such as slot machines, scratch tickets, poker games, or horse racing. With the proliferation of online gambling opportunities, those images are rapidly changing. People of all ages and backgrounds can gamble 24/7 on their devices, while at home, at work, and at school. Gambling-related harm can cause devastating consequences, and it is frequently experienced by individuals who also use substances.
New Hampshire is poised to expand capacity to address problem gambling in the coming years. In many cases, this can be done without “reinventing the wheel.” Learn about the issue of problem gambling, how to find resources, and how to make connections if you want to get involved.
This session will define gambling and give examples of legal, regulated gambling as well as activities that check all the boxes for gambling, but for various reasons, aren’t regulated as gambling. Participants will learn how to define problem gambling and gambling disorder and identify at-risk groups. The session will highlight how risk factors overlap between gambling and substance use disorder and cover some brief screening tools and conversation techniques to ask about gambling in a sensitive, nonjudgmental manner. We’ll look at data, and explore some services offered by other states. Finally, we’ll talk about resources to help individuals and affected others impacted by gambling harm.
As a result of this training, participants will be able to:
1. Define gambling, problem gambling, and gambling disorder.
2. Identify at least 3 risk factors of gambling disorder that overlap with substance use disorder.
3. Discuss at least 3 brief screening tools and conversation strategies.

NH Alcohol & Drug Abuse Counselors Association has been approved by NBCC as an Approved Continuing Education Provider. ACEP No 6754. Programs that do not qualify for NBCC credit are clearly identified. NHADACA is solely responsible for all aspects of the program.
Lori Manson
Lori Manson, IGPS has been the Problem Gambling Services Coordinator at ADEPT Maine for 7 years. In this role, she has been the only employee working on the contract with the Maine CDC to administer problem gambling services for the State of Maine. During that time, she has immersed herself in the problem gambling field locally, regionally, and nationally. She is a board member of the Maine Council on Problem Gambling, an active participant in the Northeast Consortium on Problem Gambling, and the Maine representative to the National Council on Problem Gambling (NCPG) Affiliates Committee. She has participated in the NCPG Prevention Professionals Resource Network and the NCPG Recovery Professionals Resource Network. She was elected to serve on the Board of Directors for NCPG. Most recently, Lori obtained her International Gambling Prevention Specialist certification from the International Problem Gambling and Gaming Certification Organization (IPGGC).
