A 6-Hour Training with Susan Ward, MS
8:30am-4:00pm
130 Pembroke Road, Suite 150, Concord, NH 03301
Presentation: Suicide is a leading public health issue in the United States, and while it remains difficult to address, effective postvention strategies can reduce the risk of further deaths and foster healing in schools and communities. This training is designed for clinical social workers, psychologists, and mental health providers working in a variety of settings (e.g. social services, healthcare, mental/behavioral health, etc), and focuses on the post-suicide impact that occurs on each layer of the Social-Ecological model (individual, family/peers, school, community and society). The training provides evidence-based protocols for communication and healing, as well as resources for supporting both individuals and communities.
As a result of this training, participants will be able to:
- Describe the impact of suicide on individuals and communities;
- Identify national best practices for suicide postvention including key protocols and guidelines to help prevent further risk for adolescents;
- Recognize signs of grief in youth, adolescents and young adults following a suicide; and
- Describe ways in which promoting postvention strategies can serve as prevention measures for adolescents at risk.
