A 6-Hour Training with Emily Edgerly
9:30am-5:00pm
Mount Washington Observatory Offices, 2779 White Mountain Highway, North Conway, NH 03860
Presentation: This training aims to provide addiction professionals with skills and knowledge necessary to effectively support drug offenders as they re-enter the community from jails and prisons. Effective relapse prevention is crucial for maintaining long-term recovery and avoiding recidivism. Participants will explore unique emotional, social and environmental factors of individuals with Substance Use Disorder. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of how incarceration exacerbates Substance Use Disorders and can impact therapeutic relationships. Through increased understanding, participants will be better able to tailor their support and intervention strategies to address the complex needs of criminal justice involved clients. This training will equip addiction professionals with practical relapse prevention strategies to help individuals navigate high-risk situations and avoid misusing substances. Participants will gain confidence in applying evidence-based practices that increase the likelihood of a successful transition into the community from incarceration.
As a result of this training, participants will be able to:
- Explain the impact of incarceration on substance use disorders;
- Demonstrate counselor skills to address the impact of post-incarceration stress and environmental triggers; and
- Demonstrate counselor competence in implementing relapse prevention strategies post-incarceration.
