Presentation: Managing different types of organizational change poses unique challenges and opportunities for administrators, supervisors and staff. This presentation will be based on organizational research and change management approaches actively utilized in health, education and human service agencies in public, for-profit and non-profit workplace sectors. Issues addressed include intra and inter-organizational communication, employee empowerment and motivational techniques, team building behaviors, and cultivation of an agency climate and culture that can both forecast and adapt well to change. Participants will gain knowledge about the use of reflective practice skills to effectively and efficiently accomplish the organizational mission and goals. This workshop will equip attendees with powerful tools for manager and staff approaches to maximize healthy outcomes during times of great uncertainty and rapid changes within an agency.

As a result of this training, participants will be able to:

  1. Identify best practices for developing an organizational culture which is able to forecast and effectively respond to internal and external environmental changes;
  2. Demonstrate knowledge and explain techniques to enhance intra and inter-organizational communication during times of change; and
  3. Describe how the use of reflective practice skills can be used as a tool for prevention and remediation of maladaptive manager and employee responses to organizational changes.

Scott Meyer

Professor Emeritus of Social Work

Plymouth State University

Scott Meyer, MSW, Ph.D. is a professor emeritus of social work at Plymouth State University in Plymouth, NH. Dr. Meyer’s MSW is in clinical social work from Adelphi University, Garden City, NY. His doctorate is in sociology from Boston University specializing in organizational behavior, medical sociology, and mental health. He served as an executive administrator for social rehabilitation services and was on faculty at the BU School of Medicine as a clinical instructor of psychiatry (social work). He taught at Curry College, MA and at Roger Williams College, RI. He provides counseling services as a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker; an approved clinical supervisor in NH and is a Board-Certified Diplomate in Clinical Social Work through the American Board of Examiners in Clinical Social Work. Dr. Meyer works with public and private agencies providing organizational and clinical, supervisory, and administrative consultation, training, program evaluation and grant writing service.
