Presentation: This workshop provides an overview of the 12 core functions for substance use counselors. It is created for new counselors working toward credentialing. The core functions discussed will be screening, intake, orientation, assessment, treatment planning, counseling, case management, crisis intervention, client education, referral, reports and record keeping and consultation. It will also include discussion of the related global criteria of substance use counseling. Participants will be shown the value of each function, how they are interrelated, and form an understanding of how they apply to clinical practice.

As a result of this training, participants will be able to:

  1. Define the role of the twelve core functions within counseling practice;
  2. Describe the interrelated aspects of the core functions and global criteria; and
  3. Develop a better understanding of the core functions in the counseling process.

NH Alcohol & Drug Abuse Counselors Association has been approved by NBCC as an Approved Continuing Education Provider. ACEP No 6754. Programs that do not qualify for NBCC credit are clearly identified. NHADACA is solely responsible for all aspects of the program.

This course has been approved by New Hampshire Alcohol & Drug Abuse Counselors Association (NHADACA), as a NAADAC Approved Education Provider, for educational credits. NAADAC Provider #23792, NHADACA is responsible for all aspects of the programming.

Kelly Luedtke

Associate Professor of Human Service and Addiction Counseling Program Coordinator

New Hampshire Technical Institute

Kelly Luedtke, M.Ed., CAGS, MLADC is the full time Associate Professor of Human Service and Addiction Counseling Program Coordinator at New Hampshire Technical Institute in Concord, NH. She has been in the profession of substance use counseling for over a decade, most recently serving as Chief of Operations and Clinical Officer at Serenity Place in Manchester, NH for the past 3 years. Kelly has worked in the treatment continuum from prevention, to detoxification, sobriety maintenance, medically assisted treatment, intensive outpatient, outpatient, and transitional living. She has served the community as an outreach worker, clinician, senior administrator, and educator. Currently, Kelly gives back to the community through her role as President of NHADACA, as the Chair of the NH Alcohol & Other Drug Abuse Professionals Licensing Board, and by serving on the licensing board’s Peer Review Committee. Kelly, a Master Licensed Alcohol & Drug Counselor (MLADC), currently has a master’s degree in Education/Counseling as well as a CAGS in Counseling. When Kelly isn’t lending her time to students or the substance abuse community, she enjoys exercising by running 5K’s to marathons, Bikram Yoga, traveling to warm climates, and cooking anything out of her vegetable and herb garden.

Peter DalPra

Clinical Coordinator

NH Professionals Health Program

Peter DalPra, LADC, LCS, is the Clinical Coordinator for the NH Professionals Health Program (NHPHP) after working in residential treatment in NH for 18 years. He has also worked as the Chemical Dependency and HIV/AIDS Case Manager for the former NH Division of Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Recovery as well as for the Nashua Public Health Department as an HIV/AIDS Street Outreach Worker. A nationally certified trainer in “Preventing HIV Disease Among Substance Abusers;” he is an Adjunct Faculty member at Concord Community College NHTI in Concord, NH. He is also a past President of NHADACA and a past member of the NH Board of Licensing for Alcohol and Other Drug Use Professionals.
