A 6-Hour Training with Joseph Zannella, MA, LADC

8:30am-4:00pm

Lincoln Town Hall, 148 Main Street, Lincoln, NH 03251

Presentation: This training is designed to advance our understanding of the biological components of addiction. If we really want to understand and treat addiction effectively, we need to know its basic biological underpinnings. Knowing how the brain works, why some chemicals are so strongly addicting, and why it is so hard to stay sober are all critical to working with people seeking recovery. This training addresses both chemical addictions and behavior addictions such as gambling, using the internet and social media. It is appropriate for clinicians, preventions specialists and administrative staff. The most up to date research and information available will help us to not only understand addiction but inform our plans for recovery, and how we can educate and strengthen our clients. New chemicals of abuse will be discussed and the latest information on internet related addictions and compulsions will be reviewed.

As a result of this training, participants will be able to:

  1. Explain the basics of our nervous systems and the processes underlying addiction;
  2. Describe how to better present this information to our clients;
  3. Discuss ways of adjusting a client’s recovery plan to maximize success; and
  4. List techniques on how to effectively treat the biological issues that develop from addictions effects on the central nervous system.
