Presentation: This 3-hour course allows the recovery support workers, clinicians, and other support staff to receive an overview of the history of art therapy, information on who and how art therapists work with people struggling with substance use disorders, and time working on and reflecting on their own creative process guided by a licensed and board-certified art therapist.

As a result of this training, participants will be able to:

  1. Explain three creative modalities that are used by expressive art therapists in inpatient programs;
  2. Engage in art materials of their choice and create an individual and group piece of art reflective of their internal experiences of the presentation; 
  3. Describe what an art therapist does and their level of education; and
  4. List two ways to support people struggling with addiction using art therapy.

Serena Duckrow Fonda is an art therapist in private practice out of Pembroke, NH. Serena is a supervisor, consultant, and adjunct professor. They specialize in working with and for people with trauma, neurodiversity, and the LGBTQIA-2+ community.  Serena enjoys making art in the art studio, jogging, and training Tasi, their service dog in their free time.
